GST registration amendments are generally filed electronically through the GST portal using Form GST REG-14. The processing route depends on the particulars being amended and the applicable provisions of Rule 19 of the CGST Rules.
Review the existing GST registration certificate, identify the details that need to be changed and determine the applicable amendment category and filing requirements.
Collect relevant supporting records such as address proof, business constitution documents, partner or director details and authorised signatory information.
Prepare the required amendment particulars, effective date, reasons for change and supporting documents for Form GST REG-14.
Submit the amendment application through the GST portal and complete the applicable OTP, EVC, DSC and online validation requirements, as prescribed.
The system or proper officer processes the application according to the applicable amendment category. Where required, respond to clarification requests and provide additional supporting documents.
Check the amended registration particulars and download the updated GST registration certificate, where applicable, from the GST portal.
A registered taxpayer can apply for amendment when any particulars furnished at the time of GST registration or through a subsequent amendment require updating. The nature of the change determines the applicable filing and processing requirements.
Proprietorships, partnership firms, LLPs, companies and other registered persons requiring changes to their GST registration particulars may apply for amendment.
Registered taxpayers shifting their principal place of business or adding, changing or deleting an additional place of business may require an amendment application.
Businesses updating applicable partner, director, proprietor or other responsible person particulars may apply for amendment with relevant supporting records.
Registered taxpayers changing authorised signatory, contact details, bank particulars or other amendable registration information may use the applicable amendment procedure.
Important: Under Rule 19, an amendment application is generally required to be submitted within 15 days from the date of occurrence of the relevant change. A change in business constitution resulting in a different PAN generally requires fresh GST registration instead of amendment. Under the revised process effective from 1 November 2026, amendments relating to the Principal Place of Business continue to undergo examination by the proper officer, while other particulars follow the applicable online validation and processing route. The exact requirements should be checked for each amendment.
The documents required depend on the nature of the amendment. Keep the relevant GST registration details, business records and supporting evidence ready before submitting the application.
