Frequently Asked Questions

GSTR-1 is a GST return statement used by registered regular taxpayers to report details of outward supplies of goods and services during a particular tax period. It includes invoice details, credit notes, debit notes, exports and other prescribed transaction information.

Regular GST registered taxpayers are generally required to file GSTR-1 for reporting outward supplies. Certain categories, such as composition taxpayers and specified GST registrations, are excluded from the regular GSTR-1 filing requirement under applicable rules.

The general due date for monthly GSTR-1 filing is the 11th day of the following month. For eligible quarterly taxpayers under the QRMP Scheme, the general due date is the 13th day of the month following the relevant quarter. Due dates may be extended through official notifications.

Monthly GSTR-1 is filed every month by taxpayers following the monthly return cycle. Eligible taxpayers under the QRMP Scheme file GSTR-1 quarterly and may use the Invoice Furnishing Facility (IFF) to report eligible B2B invoices during the first two months of each quarter.

Yes. A regular GST taxpayer may still be required to furnish a Nil GSTR-1 when there are no reportable outward supplies or other relevant transactions during the tax period, subject to applicable filing rules.

Late filing may attract applicable late fees under GST law, subject to prescribed limits and reliefs. Delayed filing may also affect compliance status and the availability of reported invoice details to recipients for their GST reconciliation.

A filed GSTR-1 cannot generally be revised directly. Eligible corrections may be made through GSTR-1A before filing GSTR-3B for the same tax period, where the facility is available, or through amendments in a subsequent GSTR-1 within the permitted statutory time limits.

GSTR-1 is a statement of outward supplies containing sales and invoice-level reporting details. GSTR-3B is a summary return used to declare tax liability, eligible input tax credit and discharge applicable GST payments. Both returns serve different compliance purposes.

IFF is an optional facility available to eligible taxpayers under the QRMP Scheme. It allows taxpayers to furnish specified B2B invoice details for the first two months of a quarter, generally by the 13th day of the following month, so that eligible recipients can receive the invoice details earlier.

GSTR-1 is an outward supply statement and does not itself discharge the GST tax liability. Tax liability is generally declared and paid through GSTR-3B or the applicable payment mechanism. However, GSTR-1 must accurately report the outward supply details even if the tax payment is handled separately.
